Home visits
Cardiology care at home for selected situations in which travel is difficult or the home setting contributes to follow-up, after prior assessment.

What it is
A home visit is a scheduled medical appointment carried out at the patient’s residence. It allows clinical assessment, treatment review and guidance when office attendance is difficult or unsuitable.
What it is for
It may facilitate follow-up for people with reduced mobility or other specific needs and can provide useful information about factors in the home environment that affect care.
How it works
The visit is scheduled in advance and the physician performs an assessment compatible with the resources available. If tests, continuous monitoring or hospital resources are required, referral is recommended.
When it may be indicated
It is considered after prior review of the case, location, clinical condition and availability. Not every cardiology need can be safely managed at home.
Important information
A home visit is not an emergency service. Severe chest pain, major shortness of breath, fainting, neurological signs or sudden deterioration require immediate emergency assessment; in Brazil, SAMU can be reached at 192.
Frequently asked questions
Are home visits for emergencies?+
No. Emergencies require immediate urgent care. In Brazil, SAMU can be contacted at 192.
Can every test be performed at home?+
No. Home care has structural limits; when specific tests or resources are needed, the patient is directed to an appropriate service.
Who can request a home visit?+
The patient, a family member or caregiver may contact the team. Prior triage is performed to assess whether home care is appropriate.
Individual assessment matters
This page is educational and does not replace an individual medical assessment. Tests, treatment and follow-up are defined according to the clinical context. For acute or emergency symptoms, seek urgent care.
